When i first saw city of god i was blown the fuck away. The next brazillian film i was to see was carandiru, based on a massively over crowded, aid's infected piss stinking prison (although it may as well have been a slum). My opinions of the film throughout were that it was overly dramatic and lacked realism. When you get to the end of the film, those views are flipped round, as you see a fucked up bombard of brazillian police barge through the doors and shoot dead 84 prisoners. Here's a little documentary about the prison.

A Manchester United fan drove from his Sheffield home to Aberdeen to begin an affair with a girl he had met on Facebook, only to discover it had been a hoax set up by a couple of Liverpudlian pranksters.

The prank also cost 39-year-old Stuart Slann his marriage.

Now Stuart has become an unfortunate internet star after a video revealing the elaborate hoax - accompanied by an embarrassing photo - and the entire phone conversation have been put onto video-sharing website YouTube and Facebook.

The recording contains further humiliating details of the hoax, and is NSFW.

"It's them Scouse lads who threw you in the pool. Do you recognise our Scouse accents?"

Stuart replies: "Yes I do mate."

The mystery Liverpool supporters tell him: "You've been framed", before bursting into laughter.

Stuart met the pair on a holiday in Cancun, Mexico, last November. According to the Telegraph, the three soon started giving it some gob about their rival football teams, and Stuart was subsequently thrown into the swimming pool by the Liverpool fans.

After returning home, they decided to further humiliate their victim, and set up a Facebook account featuring a Scottish woman called Emma, and exchanged emails and text messages with their target before inviting him to Aberdeen.

Stuart explained: "I'd been chatting to this girl on Facebook for about a month or so. I really thought she was genuine, and I had no reason to doubt it. On the night she asked me to Scotland I was on the road for about nine hours. And then when I got to this remote farm she sent me a text to say she was still in work.

"That's what made it worse, not only had I driven for nine hours, but I had to wait for about another three and a half hours for her to finish work."

"Then when I got the call to say it was all a hoax I just felt awful.

"If they had asked to drive to Manchester, Leeds or even Liverpool it wouldn't have been so bad and maybe I'd have seen the funny side. But to drag me all the way to Aberdeen was just cruel."

Stuart's wife Louise, 32, discovered the 'affair' last week when the whole story went public, and their marriage is now over.

Svengali is a pilot mini-series based on the music industry in london. Hapless band manager (Dixie) is looking to get a deal in london for his band 'The Premature Congratulations' (21st century happy mondays). He bumps into an old friend who's now 'made it' where the program begins to highlight the idea of how everyone thinks they 'have to be cool' to make it big. The series features a number of industry faces such as; Alan Mcgee, Carl Barat, Maggot (goldie lookin chain) and so on. The pilots were a success and it's now been announced that its gonna be made into a full TV series for some time in 2010. There's currently six episodes available on youtube.

The legendary Abbey Road studios are to offer the mastering facilities that the likes of and The Last Shadow Puppets have used to new bands via the internet.

The studio, famous for recording seminal albums by the likes of The Beatles and Pink Floyd, have launched an online mastering service which will allow new acts to submit their recordings via a secure server.

Engineers at Abbey Road will then mix the tracks using the studio's mastering suites.

”It’s easy for new bands to undervalue the importance of quality mastering, but it really is the final stage of the recording process and getting it right makes a huge impact to the sound of your recordings," Alex Wharton, Mastering Engineer at Abbey Road, told NME.COM.

"Abbey Road's been responsible for mastering some of music industry's most influential albums but in addition to Pink Floyd and The Beatles, we've also worked with new talent like Babyshambles, The Last Shadow Puppets and Lightspeed Champion, and we're so excited to be able to offer this same level of quality to the young bands out there that could be the bands to watch in the future."

Man sought prostitute for son, 14

A father who asked an undercover police officer posing as a prostitute to take his 14-year-old son's virginity has been given a suspended prison sentence.

The man from Bulwell, Nottingham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was given a 10-month suspended jail term.

Nottingham Crown Court heard the man, 42, had approached the undercover policewoman in the Mapperley area in July believing her to be a prostitute.

He admitted trying to solicit a woman to have sex with a child.

The court heard the father was arrested during an undercover operation by the city's vice squad.

The man drove up to the undercover officer and asked her how much she would charge for sex with his son, who was sitting next to him in the car.

Judge Jonathan Teare said he was not sending the father to prison because of his previous excellent character and that he believed he did not mean any harm to his son.

He said: "What you were doing that night was to expose your 14-year-old son to a prostitute because you didn't know she was a police officer.

"You have a duty of care to your son and that is to look after his moral welfare not, as you might think, to break him into the ways of sex through a prostitute."
The father's barrister Matthew Smith said: "There is a thorough sense of shame the defendant feels.

"It's completely at odds with every other part of his character."
Mr Smith added that the boy would be allowed to continue to live with his father.
The defendant will be placed on the sex offenders register for five years.

Jack White of The White Stripes has started ANOTHER band... Although to be fair if something decent (other than this tune) comes out of this band, its probably for the best, as I thought The Raconteurs were pretty kack. The band has brought together Alison Mosshart (double smash) of The Kills, Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence, and Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertitta...It's almost as if they're trying for some sort of 'supergroup'. The single 'Hang you from the heavens' has the moody, distorted blues timbre sound you'd expect from these artists, but Mosshart's voice just spells sexy slut. Bit of a 'try2be edgy' video but its pretty sick.

Phillip Toledano is a photographer I saw in Hotshoe a couple of years ago. I recently picked up on one of his more recent projects titled 'Phonesex'. Now I'm not really the type to ring up 'sex lines' (at least for a few years) but from what you see on the TV I always get the image of them being really fit, in a really clean environment.
Toledano goes into the live's of the people that work in this industry. Invading their privacy and finding out why they do the job they do. It's a really bizarre subject, and when the photo's are read with text, they're like short stories. The images also appear to be quite glossy/editorial. I'm unsure as to why he's done this, but it's definitley a different approach that works well with documentary photography. Click here to view the rest of the series with text/

Bukowski Artwork

While not generally remembered for his artistic skills, Bukowski was capable of producing some surprisingly good paintings. Of course he was primarily a writer, not a painter. There's a few strong paintings whilst the majority of them are just jokes.

He produced literally hundreds of these paintings. Most of them painted on 6 X 9 inch paper with thick layers of acrylics, oil paint, watercolors, pastels, crayons, pens - whatever was at hand. They were sent to Black Sparrow (Publisher) where they were bound into special hardcover first editions of his books.

So I'm currently in the process of getting through a series of sketch shows that were aired on channel 4 in 2001. If you don't recognise the name you'll probably know him from writing 'I'm Alan Partridge' and 'The thick of it'. I've only watched the first three episodes, but so far they're pretty fucking good, with alot of heavy hearted humour. Each episode is set with a 'rough theme' with a surreal narrative throughout. The series is noted for its CGI and realistic violence. You'll recognise some of the dialogue sampled in rusko's 'cockney thug' tune. I haven't been able to find any episodes on youtube so far, but there's a few torrents/rapidshare downloads about, or just buy the fucking thing. Apart from being one of the best tunes on the album...This video for Radiohead's 'House of cards' demonstrates a potential turning point in music video, which i can imagine becoming quite popular with with half the shit in the current electronic scene trying to be alternative. The video was made with no cameras or lights. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data. Edgy fucking shit.

Exactly what happened is still not clear..however the police fired 3 shots, one of which caused the death of 15-year-old Alexander Grigoropoulos (pictured above). The 2 police are currently in jail awaiting trial, the shooter charged with homicide. As you'd probably guess what with the reputation of riots in Europe (exculding pathetic England) this incident sparked a big one. This is probably a topic you'll keep seeing me add too throughout this blog.

The question popped up at some presentation I was shown at my college. Criticism over adverts has been going on for years, right back from the Dada movement to modern day fashion billboards. But where do you drawn the line? What should be allowed and what shouldn't?

From the mid 80s to the mid 90s, Italian clothing range Benneton and photographer Oliviero Toscani took the shock factor of advertising to a new level. All of these photographs were advertising a clothing range, from glamorising prisoners on death row to showing the effect AID's victims have on their families members. Whether it's immoral in your eyes or not, the plan worked. By 1994 Benneton were the 3rd most recognised company logo in the world. Oliviero Toscani was later sacked from Benneton, and refused work from most companies. His work is fucking intelligent, and he's definitely a big inspiration for anyone who lacks ignorance.

Unfortunatley alot of the advertisments are so graphic, they're really hard to find on the internet, but I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find em. But here's some I didnt manage to find. Just imagine these on huge billboards across the world..

Probably my most bizarre post to date..

The term 'Viennese Actionism' describes a short and violent movement in 20th century art that which goes beyond the efforts during the 1960s to develop "action art" (Fluxus, Happening, Performance, Body Art, etc.). Its main participants were Günter Brus, Otto Mühl, Hermann Nitsch and Rudolf Schwarzkogler. The work of the Viennese Actionists is probably best remembered for the wilful transgressiveness of its naked bodies, destructiveness and violence. Often, brief jail terms were served by participants for violations of decency laws, and their works were targets of moral outrage.

Alot of their work was experimental film and moving imagery. This is what I've found to be the most bizarre and generally fucked up. Alot of the work was banned and what is left to be viewed is only around because of strong links with actionists that still work today. They're definitely videos you don't wanna watch more than once, if at all for that matter. Anyway I've posted 1 of the not so vile ones (would you believe) but it is still definitely for the 'not so weak stomachs' to watch. My main reason for posting them is I love this type of film, how it almost looks super 8mm, but with alot more jump cut etc, which you rarely come across. Inspired by classic Shakespeare characters: Yorick (Hamlet), Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet). All of the designs look pretty sick, and with no price range yet given, fingers crossed they aren't too much.

Understanding wise, this film is pretty straight forward. It tells the portrayal of life during the 1981 IRA hunger strike. It contains very little dialogue, and is really grey throughout. Fuck knows how the main actor managed to get as thin as he is for the making of this film. It also gave me an insight to the term 'blanket' 'no wash'. Which is exactly what the prisoners during 'the trouble years' did. Smothering their cell walls in their own shit, then getting beaten the fuck out of to go and do it all again. Steve Mcqueens hit the nail on the head with this 1, it's a real epic bit of cinema.

Found out about this bloke a while back. His names Mohammed Bourouissa (french as you might of guessed), Basically he stages moments of tension and the power relationships which exist within the ghetto-like suburbs of Paris (la banlieue). The series is called 'Périphérique', which from what i can gather means 'the outskirts' or something like that. Heres a few of my favorite images.

From what I've read online, his works now getting exhibited alongside major french artists in galleries around europe. You can see more of the series here.

This common people comic book, was a promo item which was included with some of the singles released in 1995. I want it. Apparntly you can get it on some record shop website for around £20. It did give me a bit of a 'lol' when i first read it. The characters look similar to 'gorillaz' characters. Cant find anything that tells you that though.

This little number was found in this months Hotshoe magazine. Documentary photographer Matt Eich, has travelled everywhere, documenting some of the most feculant ways of living around the world. The latest series 'carry me ohio' looks into the heartland of the wealthiest country in the world, where a stretch of land lays, once known as the 'ohio coal belt'. No jobs, just an overrun of poverty. Heres some of my favorite images of the series.

Winters coming, and after having to sell my previous 'expensive jacket' to pay back debt for my reading ticket, I'm desperatley wanting a new jacket for the winter. After flicking through dazed&confused's autumn fashion section, I came across a few coats that caught my eye. One of the ones featured that I thought was a bit of a joke, was designed by Aitor Throup, It basically looked like an elephants tusk on the hood of a coat, with the longest fish-tail i'd seen on a 'parka style coat'. I checked out his website and all these mad illustrations of jackets he's designed came up. Some of my favorites are just below.

I read on about him and came across the title 'When Football hooligans become Hindu gods'.Now they we're making more sense and starting to look alot more like the CP company and other Massimo osti jackets i've been wanting to afford for years, only difference being, all this collection are based on hindu gods. Although I wouldnt wear alot of the jackets 'around town', If I was some ponsy rich bastard in an audi, I'd own all of these. His inspiration for desining these jackets came from the days when he was a Burnley fan, and noticed the style of clothing the other fans wore. He picked up on it and began designing at London college of Fashion, Aswell as writing the book CASUALS. His exhibtion is currently on at the V&A, But tickets are fucking pricey. 'Zeitgeist' is a documentary telling the story of the corruption and violation of the world. The film starts off with a speech about spirituality, followed by a series of musically synchronized clips of major events/disasters that have changed the world. It can be broken down into three parts. The first being how christianity is used by the rich and powerful to control the people. The second part is very similar to 'loose change', and is about the 9/11 conspiracy. And the third how since WW1, the mega rich have been secretly creating wars and financial disasters to get rich themselves. Alot of it i didnt understand because my knowledge on relgion and history isn't fantastic. But it is THE most interesting documentary i've seen of this style of film. It drags a bit at the start and is a bit off putting, but dont be suprised if your spitting on your floor and sending aggy comments on facebook at the end of it.

This documentary clearly reigns as the queen of them all. It goes right from the start of the brit pop era, with plenty of interviews with all the 'britpop superstars'. Most importantly it gives you an insight to what a complete cock Damon Alban really is. I recommend the alcohol route when watching it, as it helps to shout and slur and the TV screen, aswell as the annoying indie kid your sitting next to. Unfortunatley it was removed from youtube, but there are a few torrents about that arent too slow.

French photographer-activist, JR has been on a mission round the worlds ghettos photographing portraits of young people 'armed' with a 28mm camera. His images are all full frame portraits, and once decided on favorites, turns the streets into open air galleries by blowing them up to 5x5m posters, and illegaly showering them on to the streets of paris. He's put together a booke with the help of vincent cassell titled '28mm'. The book consists of the 28 most meaninguful portraits from the series.

'Big on the 2008 scene'. Believe it or not 'spez' actualy told me about this band...think its the first time hes ever found some half decent music. Basically they sound like a more northen version of the arctic monkekys crossed with the enemy, but with much better stories. They're pretty good...apparntly they were recently full on trevs, and their last.fm quote is 'raised on fish factories and shit nightclubs'. sounds a bit like football factory lingo to me so they must be good. You might have heard the song 'Kevin Carter' by The Manic Street Preachers...well its about this man. He was an award winning South African photojournalist who committed suicide due to depression because of the many traumatic experiences during his career. His work is astonishing, and when you read a bit more about of him, hes probably one of the most risk taking photographers you've ever heard about. He was a member of the Bang Bang Club who were a group of photographers during the apartheid in south africa. One of the most shocking photos ive ever seen is the one below. Whether your interested in photography or not this man really is interesting to read about.

This is Pulp's second album released in 1987. I never really listend to their old stuff until the last couple of months, since ive become a pulp finatic. Its a fucking good album, the lyrics on all of the tracks are quite deep (oh edgy jarvis). The tune you'll probably know off the album is 'Anoreix Beauty' which is fucking quality. Watched this today for the second time. It's directed by Harmony Korine (Co-writer of Kids). First time round i was a bit spun out about it all, as it is a fucking weird film. It's quite boring but its actually a fucking amazing portrait of schizophrenia. The family on a whole are just well fucked up, well worth seeing just to make you appreciate not being a schizophrenic. Not better than a beautiful mind though.
